ABOUT ME

I am Angela and I really love to sew. I started sewing as a child and by the time I was a teenager I was wearing the very latest fashions to go out in. I wear my Handmade clothes almost exclusively Years have passed and I am passionate about reducing the amount of textiles sent to landfill. So I started this blog in order to have a way in which to pass on my gained knowledge, and my professional knowledge to you, free of charge. Sewing is empowering, you can save money by making items, make money by selling then, and you can pass your knowledge on to others. What is not to love? Interestingly I am a direct descendant of the Flemish weavers who came over to England in the 1300's. I find that fascinating especially as most of my family from as far back as I can trace are somehow involved in the manufacturing of fabric . As a child my Saturday mornings were spent at Dads factory playing amongst razor sharp Card Clothing . My grandmother worked in the cotton mills and one of my aunts made bespoke car seats. I have a degree in tailoring with a special interest in WW2 fashion. I have Parkinson's and support disabled people without question. Do ask if you need help or advice on sewing aids and techniques Angela.

An easy way to learn how to sew - and save money

If you are anxious about learning to sew then have you thought of starting off with making dolls clothes? It's how I first learned to sew.

When I was very young I learned to sew by making dolls clothes. I feel that if you have little girls in your family you could also save a fortune as dolls clothes are very expensive Dolls clothes  are easy to make but will demonstrate perfectly how you would make an adult garment   as you use the same processes. Making dolls clothes is a great way to learn to sew for any age as the garments are small enough to be completed in one go.

Lovely Warm gifts for you to sew.

Handwarmer,  body warmer and a relaxing eyemask for you to sew. Plus a very easy neck scarf. Perfect for giving.

A lot of us suffer in the  cold with aches and pains sometimes from arthritis. These simple garments are designed to help keep you snug and warm. Even if you don't , these delightful pieces make perfect thoughtful gifts

The pattern is Kwik Sew 4318.

If you are unable to purchase the pattern then it is easy enough to draft your own, see my post Handwarmers and scarves

It is so very easy to do as long as you remember to make your pattern big enough to accommodate multiple layers
. Let me know if you have a problem
I have used pure 100% cotton from my stash.

But you can purchase  it here Cotton fabric

I made the Bias Binding myself which is incredibly easy to do. I made a video to show you how to make it. Please don't buy it ready made, your own is far superior

MORE BAGS TO SEW - EASY TOTE BAGS.

Easy to sew, eco-friendly, perfect for gifts.....

Not just any Bag

What do you do with your leftover bits of fabric? I like to use every scrap of my fabric and this is my go-to favourite  project.
We all need bags now and what could be better than to make your own? A pretty bag is less likely to be left at home and no matter how simple the design they are always admired. In fact mine are often admired so much that I give them away and end up with none for myself

This particular Tote bag was made almost entirely on my embroidery machine. Sweet Pea Australia
It is made from quilting cotton and trimmed with fau

Sew a Beautiful Lingerie Bag

A pretty lingerie bag to give or keep

I have made a lot of lingerie recently and I thought that it would be really nice to have a lingerie bag to keep them in. It is nice to put your night slip in during the day and they are useful to take on holiday too, they look really pretty sat on your bed.

They are not difficult to make and take very little fabric. They can be made any size you want and you could even make a small one for handkerchiefs. They make wonderful gifts too.

This is my lingerie case sat on my bed. I only ever buy or make Egyptian cotton bedding and always in white. I add lace trimmings to sheets and pillowcases and always add my initial. I therefore get the quality I enjoy at a good price  and can personalise it to suit my own taste.
